The Red Tree Photographs, David Arnold

The Red Tree is a lone Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis) located in the oak savanna on the road to the east entrance of Beale Air Force Base near Smartsville, California. The tree can be reached by traveling south on Smartsville Road from Highway 20 to Daugherty Road, squeezing through the barbed wire fence and walking a hundred yards to the west through the tall grass. It is a big, old tree and in the fall presents a riot of red, orange, coral, pink, yellow and green.
